Thank you so much for this article. I attend a lot of these conferences and speak at some of them, and anymore it seems like the purpose of speaking at a conference is to become edu-famous rather than actually confer with others. The last one I went to, one of the keynoters quoted himself on every other slide with his Twitter handle attached. I’d much rather hear stories from people in the trenches than someone shilling for their next gig anyday (especially if I’m paying through the nose to attend, which is another issue.)
